HMMA DONATES $204,000 TO THE DEXTER PARSONAGE MUSEUM FOR PRESERVATION REPAIRS

MONTGOMERY, Ala., June 26, 2024 – Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, LLC (HMMA) today donated $204,000 to the Dexter Avenue King Legacy Foundation for structural and cosmetic repairs to the Dexter Parsonage Museum. The donation was made toward the Dexter Avenue King Legacy Foundation’s launch of the Historical Opportunities Preservation Efforts (HOPE) project for the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and the Dexter Parsonage Museum.

“HMMA’s Corporate Social Responsibility program supports a wide array of needs throughout Montgomery and the River Region. Our organization and team members have consistently offered their time and resources to enhance education, expand research to address critical health concerns and elevate historical landmarks,” said Robert Burns – HMMA Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. “The Dexter Parsonage Museum is receiving $204,000 from HMMA to help with structural and beautification repairs to elevate this former residence of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and eleven pastors who served the Montgomery community from 1920 to 1992. Our company is honored to be able to offer these funds to ensure this home remains a place for reflection, historic study, and a symbol of Montgomery’s place in the civil rights movement.”

“I was determined to see this project through working with the trustees.  Blessing comes in ways you do not expect, and Hyundai was sent my way for this reason. I received such love from your team members I had never met that will carry me forward to keep working for Dexter,” said Ms. Lula Henry – Former President of Trustees for Dexter Avenue King Legacy Foundation. “Thank you is not enough; exceptional happiness is what Hyundai is giving.”

The Dexter Parsonage Museum was the home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his family while he was pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist church from 1954 to 1960.
